Focus on Productivity and Competency
Too many government workers are lazy and/or incompetent. Job security should be based on your ability to produce. It should not be dependent upon your length of service. Too many supervisors are afraid of their employees and don't do their job (disciplince, coaching, etc.) Also, Gov workers are overburdened so quality suffers. Too many government workers are lazy and/or incompetent. Job security should be based on your ability to produce. It should not be dependent upon your length of service. Too many supervisors are afraid of their employees and don't do their job (disciplince, coaching, etc.) Also, Gov workers are overburdened so quality suffers. It's discouraging to work hard while earning the same pay as those who don't. Also, the compensation is too restrictive and the time in grade requirements are horrible. If you're good; you're good. Creeping up the GS scale prevents the good people from leaping to the top. It's no surprise that the talent is in private industry.
