Since we are protecting our interests and values through military action in foreign countries, let's stress more in the Federal sector that we all are here to provide support and services, economically, and fairly. Our goal is to provide the best services at the least cost to taxpayers.

Until a new government wide pay and classification system is put into place, OPM should reinstitute annual reviews of the classification of positions within all agencies. Otherwise we have no idea how the current system is really working. Results of reviews should be published to the public (minus names of agencies). Establish a basic Position Description database via a "cloud" automated system that could be accessed by all Federal agencies. This would assist in simpliying classification process, and increase the sharing of existing job description information and reduce the duplication of position classification efforts that costs money in the hiring process across all Federal agencies.

Many workers in the Federal workforce will soon be retiring. I suggest hiring practices in the Federal government be streamlined to establish a method for agencies to check a "Public Service Within the Public Service" database of older Federal workers whose skills could be of benefit to various agencies before they retire. Allow older workers to volunteer to be reassigned or detailed to other agencies to assist in filling ...more »

I suggest hiring practices in the Federal government be streamlined to establish a method for agencies to check a "Public Service Within the Public Service" database of older Federal workers whose skills could be of benefit to various agencies before they retire. Allow older workers to volunteer to be reassigned or detailed to other agencies to assist in filling key positions that could benefit from the competencies and skills of these senior employees. We're ONE federal workforce. Let's put in place procedures that make that a reality. Agencies filling key high grade positions GS-14 and 15 would be required to check this Public Service database before expending money on announcing positions for competition.

Each year each Federal agency, and work units in each agency, should be required to identify cost savings. A concerted effort should be made to improve processes that are costly and that do not provide prompt and efficient services.
