Recycle Copper At Government Worksites
My brother is in the electrical trade and works on many government renovations. He tells us that every day tons of copper is pulled from government buildings when new wiring is needed. However, the contracted electrical companies are restricted from recycling this copper (any employee who does take it and recycle it for money is considered stealing from the government and can be fired), and it ends up in the trash. ...more »
My brother is in the electrical trade and works on many government renovations. He tells us that every day tons of copper is pulled from government buildings when new wiring is needed. However, the contracted electrical companies are restricted from recycling this copper (any employee who does take it and recycle it for money is considered stealing from the government and can be fired), and it ends up in the trash. This is extremely wasteful as (1) if something can be recycled and it is not, you are not being "green" and hurting the environment, and (2) currently copper is over $4.00 per lb. The government could recycle this and recieve money back on work being done. The amount of copper being thrown out on a constant basis is horrendous.
