  Mandatory Rotational Assignments - for everyone.

  Keep the government moving as it should. Too many people get stuck in their positions without learning how the rest of their divisions work, never mind what they don't know about sister agencies or parent organizations. For those who've been in the same positions for more than five years, get moving, learn new skills, meet new people, keep the brain fresh, and cultivate your ideas and skills to make our government as ...more »

  Keep the government moving as it should. Too many people get stuck in their positions without learning how the rest of their divisions work, never mind what they don't know about sister agencies or parent organizations. For those who've been in the same positions for more than five years, get moving, learn new skills, meet new people, keep the brain fresh, and cultivate your ideas and skills to make our government as efficient as possible.

  Make training and rotations mandatory for all. We will have a happier workforce.

  Openly use social media to hire new recruits

  OPM must realize the importance of using Facebook and other social media to recruit a new and talented workforce, especially when it comes to hiring a new generation of Federal workers. Allow the use of social media for HR-related work. In fact, promote it.

  Exercise to Improve Morale

  Make movement - any movement - once a day, for all Federal workers to increase overall health and well-being, especially when they're sitting in centuries-old buildings all day.

  All employees become more efficient in their work and are in better moods. When exercise becomes a team effort, it will improve employee morale.

  Fed Workforce Must Mirror the Diversity of the American People

  The only way you will diversify the Federal workforce is to create special hiring processes for underrepresented people. Many agencies laud their EEO divisions or Offices of Civil Rights, including the CIA's Office of Diversity, but Hispanics and Latinos are sorely represented in the Federal workforce, especially in managerial and executive positions. The Department of Commerce has one of the lowest rates of Hispanic/Latino ...more »

  The only way you will diversify the Federal workforce is to create special hiring processes for underrepresented people. Many agencies laud their EEO divisions or Offices of Civil Rights, including the CIA's Office of Diversity, but Hispanics and Latinos are sorely represented in the Federal workforce, especially in managerial and executive positions. The Department of Commerce has one of the lowest rates of Hispanic/Latino representation, which barely mirrors the representation in the civilian work force. Federal recruitment strategies are hopeful, as their presence on college campuses and fairs are few and far between, but until agencies can select who they are hiring, there will be no way their underrepresented populations increase in the near future.

  Make it a point to hire underrepresented people at the SES level. This requires changing the Federal government's hiring processes, as well as who is doing the hiring. If agencies are run by the same people who typically represent SES-level positions, then the gov'ts chance to hire underrepresented people is basically... well... zero.

  Place Limits on Printing ANYTHING

  I've seen a lot of older people printing hundreds upon thousands of emails every day. It's extremely unnecessary and wasteful to print all of our emails, especially when email is a basic form of communication not just in the federal government, but in the world.   I've seen a lot of older people printing hundreds upon thousands of emails every day. It's extremely unnecessary and wasteful to print all of our emails, especially when email is a basic form of communication not just in the federal government, but in the world.

  Not only do we save on our precious resource of paper, you'll save trees, reduce the production of paper, reduce waste and the resources required to process waste, reduce ink and printer costs which are harmful to the enviroment, and increase overall resourcefulness - for the employee and the organization.

  Regularly Educate Baby Boomers on Technology

  I see way too many baby boomers doing unnecessary work that can be done by today's technology. Copying a 200-page document ten times and distributing it among your staff is wasteful and barely resourceful when we already have pdf capabilities, email, and network privileges. Tallying numbers on an excel spreadsheet dates back to an era long gone, and in an institution that prides itself on numbers and facts, the time ...more »

  I see way too many baby boomers doing unnecessary work that can be done by today's technology. Copying a 200-page document ten times and distributing it among your staff is wasteful and barely resourceful when we already have pdf capabilities, email, and network privileges. Tallying numbers on an excel spreadsheet dates back to an era long gone, and in an institution that prides itself on numbers and facts, the time spent waiting for a baby boomer to count and copy documents would be better spent training him or her on how to better use technology, and therefore utilitze their positions in more resourceful ways.

  It has taken some time for our agency to use social media as a means for publicizing our work, as well as recruiting talent. We are so far behind in using Facebook, Twitter, and other social medias. If baby boomers were regularly trained and allowed open use of social media to facilitate work processes and therefore, the vision of the organization, perhaps we can actually start CREATING CHANGE.
