Require Drug Testing for all Feds - failures fired!
They should not be employed as a Fed with illegal habits. The military has random drug tests and all feds should too.

It seems like every Agency and Department has their own and I recently saw their budget for one Agency, wow! It is time we have centralized services across the federal government and mandate they be used. One service center, one budget, one contract. It doesn't have to be all of audio visual just the teleconference piece that can be easily managed remotely. Book a line on web or call a call center to schedule. No ...more »

Book a line on web or call a call center to schedule. No more using an up to 15 line for a meeting that has 20 participants - better options at less price and lower redundancy!

This is getting pretty sad and makes life hard for all government agencies. The last Congress should have passed the budget before the election. The lame duck Congress should have finished it. Now this House passed it and the Senate and them need to learn to reconcile. Once the FY starts Congress should have all pay with held from them till they get their jobs done. If I didn't get results I would be disciplined ...more »

If I didn't get results I would be disciplined and risk losing pay, why should they get fat checks while they mismange?

Using Voice over Internet Protocol establish Agency wide phone numbers for local areas - no need to print new business cards and saved time hunting down people. A new employee that gets hired gets assigned a number from a central office. They keep this number through moves up, lateral or whatever. No more reprint business cards or tracking down the guy who used to sit there before you. Savings through efficiency. This would be especially useful in the national capital region. In 10 years I have gone through 7 numbers - cubicle moves, etc and it cost the agency $50-100 to move the numbers. VOIP through a USB so when we telework we can answer - at another desk we can answer, or even at a conference. How much stationary, business cards and strings of calls without reaching the intended POC have you made?

This is always the 800 pound gorilla in the room. President Bush had a good plan in 2005/6 that was blocked by the far left and far right. It is time a mainstream center of the spectrum plan be debated and passed and the far left and far right need to live with it. We need to legalize worker that are here with permits, get them paying taxes, and create a PATH to citizenship. The left wants to make all them citizens ...more »

The left wants to make all them citizens immediate and the right wants to send them home. How about the middle ground here?

This has been done in many communities across the country. Perhaps excess federal land or a lease could be used to help this get started everywhere.
Local is better at alot of things!

For close to a decade the private prison industry was booming because state legislators thought they could be both tough on crime and fiscally conservative by contracting with private prisons. However, private prisons have been rife with more abuse and lawsuits than state run prisons, leading to a decline in state level support. The largest private prison in the US, The Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), has been criticized for widespread abuses and high rates of escape. While most state correctional officials are aware of the problems, the federal government continues to expand contracts with the private prison industry. Private prison industry officials make significant campaign contributions and their lobbyists have spread their influence widely in Congress. High-ranking private prison company officials have served as directors of the Federal Bureau of Prisons under former presidents Reagan and Bush. U.S. government pending private prison contracts are up to over $4.6 billion for the next ten years. With the new federal contracts, CCA, which carried more than $1 billion in outstanding debt, was able to avoid bankruptcy and continue in business.

Who is going to bail out the American Taxpayer. They said that this was a once in a lifetime scenario but laws should be put in place to make it a two thirds decision in the future.

Reform tax code: The report would lower income tax rates and simplify the tax code. It would abolish the Alternative Minimum Tax -- the so-called wealth tax -- and proposes either significantly reducing or eliminating the hundreds of tax breaks in the federal code that reduce federal revenue intake by more than $1 trillion a year.

The $1 bill cost more than a dollar to produce. It is time we replace it with coins like they have done in Europe. They last longer and are cheaper to make.

I have heard of this in the military but the Federal Gov't should also do this - rewards for good ideas.
If it saves money then a reward for the idea is what capitalism is all about!

My building in the military had one that powered the HVAC and the hot water. We were always very comfortable and it was not at the expense of taxpayers beyond installation. What made this good was that we were a 24/7 function. We need more of these where it pays to add them and they should be made in America!

For decades we have focused on free trade. This is not a bad thing but Americans must hear from the top that buying American is a good thing to do. If we buy more then prices go down.
I looked at the American Living line in JC Penney and it is made in the usual suspects. They charge more and you would think it would be AMERICAN made!

Just a thought, we should repeal the Health Care Law. Several judges say it is unconstitutional but no action from the Executive branch. The legislative branch should either repeal it or the AG contest the ruling - otherwise the preparation are WASTED money!
What do you think? If you disagree, why?

Many positions can be automated. Examples such as the timekeeper or a multiple security guards. Add man traps and other features. If the private sector is doing it to be more efficient so should the govt!

The high speed rail projects that were proposed were in the wrong states. We need to redirect those funds to a maglev from Washington D.C to New York City. We need to connect our leadership capital with our financial capital. Agencies would be able tl locate up the corridor and have cheaper travel. Since this will take a load off roads then it can be built with government funds and leased to a commercial operator to use and maintain and earn a profit. Since the infrastructure is leased the deal must place caps on rate increases - they must be based on increasing cost and not increasing profitability.
This would help Amtrak not need govt funds and you could get from DC to New York in 1 hour. The existing Accela rail lines in the corridor can be worked with the local commuter rails that are operated by Amtrak so that the additional tracks planned won't need to be added!

I hate to say this but the GSA and DLA prices for items such as tools are criminal. If they cannot offer the best product at the best price then we should ALWAYS be able to change to IMPAC funds and buy from a commercial source such as Sear Craftsman. I priced one DLA tool box that cost $1250 was $217 at Sears. The Sears set was also lifetime warranty and the pieces matched. The DLA set was mix match! Best product, ...more »

Currently a 20 year military vet that joined at 18 and retires at 38 gets a retirement immediately. I am military so I understand this isn't popular but that means if they live the life expectancy they get this for 40+ years!
This is not true for the reserves so the system needs to be more balanced.

We need to have the President set an ambitious export goal. Like increase so much by this date.
This should be the goal of all executives - even states. They should want the US to lead the world in goods and services.
