  Analyze processes and improve them to reduce work

  By improving each process, no matter how small, government will become more efficient over time and require much less labor. And less labor spells lower costs. This also will offer better services and less confusion for the consumer. There is no need to hire LEAN to come in a evaluate processes.   This also will offer better services and less confusion for the consumer.

  There is no need to hire LEAN to come in a evaluate processes. It is up to the employees to be willing to think outside the box and most importantly be flexible and willing to make the necessary changes.

  Eliminate little used laptops and implement a ...

  Many employees have laptops that are little used.

  For example, an employee might have a laptop that is used for a presentation off site or to work from home a couple weekends a year. This employee could just check a laptop out from the department when needed.

  Since laptops have to be serviced and eventually replaced this would save equipment costs and IT staff time to re-image or repair the devices.

  Get the UN to create a peace keeping budget

  The US spends a lot of money keeping peace.

  There should be a global peace keeping fund that could be used for "Wars run by committees" that could save the US a lot of money. We could still man the missions, but the expense would be shared by UN counties.

  Come up with efficient ways to communicate

  We travel all the time to meet and for training. With such budget problems is travel really needed with our current technology. Why can't we make the best of it for now and use web, video and phone conferencing. When times are good we can travel again. Thanks EDIT: I found these posts buried down in the hundreds of ideas.   Create incentives for other countries to create US jobs

  With labor such a high cost for US companies, we need to even the playing field by forcing foreign companies to create some US jobs if they want to sell their products to the US market.

  I think this would be hard to swallow for some foreign companies, but, we are top consumers and I think they would find a way to work it.
