  Far-fetched idea; earning a degree based on exam results

  Would it be possible for an individual to pay a certain fee and take examinations without actually attending the class. To earn the degree, they would have to meet the same criteria as students who attended the classes. This would be a self-study program that would generate income for Colleges that would not get these students otherwise and would motivate those mentally hardy enough to pursue that line or encourage ...more »

  Would it be possible for an individual to pay a certain fee and take examinations without actually attending the class. To earn the degree, they would have to meet the same criteria as students who attended the classes. This would be a self-study program that would generate income for Colleges that would not get these students otherwise and would motivate those mentally hardy enough to pursue that line or encourage hands on experienced individuals to pursue a degree. This would improve the statistics of being the best educated country in the world.

  Keep Enforcing Federally Assisted Agencies to Buy American Goods

  ARRA served as a great means to enforce and ensure American goods were bought and used. Introducing such practices and enforcing them kept the focus on American made products boosting the economy and motivating more Americans to spread their wings and produce more American made goods.   ARRA served as a great means to enforce and ensure American goods were bought and used. Introducing such practices and enforcing them kept the focus on American made products boosting the economy and motivating more Americans to spread their wings and produce more American made goods. This is healthy for our economy. If there is a market for our goods with strict product eligibility criteria, it would encourage overall competitiveness.

  Collaborate with local Federal Agencies for shared training

  Take a leaf from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan's sustainability efforts and pool training resources to collaborate with local Federal Agencies. Provide an interactive medium similar to this medium, where local federal agencies may post the training they are providing at least a month ahead to inform other agency heads about the training available. When finalized, employees should be able to access the site and register ...more »

  Take a leaf from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan's sustainability efforts and pool training resources to collaborate with local Federal Agencies. Provide an interactive medium similar to this medium, where local federal agencies may post the training they are providing at least a month ahead to inform other agency heads about the training available. When finalized, employees should be able to access the site and register for the training either by conference calls, webcast and/or in person. This resource sharing will not only be cost saving but will also help federal employees network and work together as a whole rather than very separate parts of a whole. I had a very positive experience working together with employees of several federal agencies during Hurricane Katrina and sharing knowledge and resources during that crisis. We definitely worked as a whole then.

  Reduce Need for Housing Assistance by Introducing New Programs

  From among those receiving housing assistance, in Low Rent programs and Housing Voucher programs identify the ones who currently hold a college degree. Create a program through the Labor Department to ensure training towards employment (e.g. current apprentice programs), so that they may become self sufficient and their children begin to value the importance of education. As long as they continue getting housing assistance, their children will not value education and the federal funds will not be used wisely.

  Improve Efficiency by Ensuring Agencies Implement Current Laws

  Federal laws are put in place because of a need however though external application of these laws is regulated scrupulously by the Government, internally it is a different story. When these laws relate to important priorities such as safety of employees in the workplace, violating agencies should be held accountable.   Federal laws are put in place because of a need however though external application of these laws is regulated scrupulously by the Government, internally it is a different story. When these laws relate to important priorities such as safety of employees in the workplace, violating agencies should be held accountable. All agencies are not guilty of this lapse hence there should be a penalty set for the violating agencies as there is in the private sector. Federal agencies are not regulated for violation and not placed on a Corrective Action Plan as a preventive measure. The end result is the unnecessary and continued waste of valuable taxpayer time and dollars. What’s good for the goose should also be good for the gander; if we as part of the Government enforce Federal safety laws in the private sector, shouldn’t we be enforcing it in the Federal workplace? When agencies blatantly violate workplace safety laws and labor laws, efficiency and productivity are directly impacted. Simple actions for accountability will result in a more productive and efficient workforce.
