I don't know about you guys, but about half my agency works inside the beltway. Acknowledging that the work done in Headquarters is very important, it feels to me as though a lot of the decisions made there are out-of-touch with taxpayers on the ground. With technology making distance less of a barrier, distribute agency representatives throughout the country and in the field rather than huddled together looking only inward.
National workgroups provide only the narrowest of opportunities for input when all the people actually writing the legislation work walking distance to the Capital.
By providing more details, regional opportunities, and field visits, the government can work to expand their scope of public interaction and compete more genuinely with the community.
