  Accountability

  Require executive (including the President) and legislative branches of government to provide the American voting public with quarterly reports clearly outlining their priorities and projected actions. A state of the union speach summarizing past actions is a bit disconcerting. "rebuttals" to this effort are useless babble. If we all knew what was planned, we might have a better chance of influencing decision makers ...more »

If we all knew what was planned, we might have a better chance of influencing decision makers to better consider what their constituents really need and/or want. Once it's done, it's already too late.

  Let the Taxpayer Decide Where there $$$ is Spent

  I think in order to eliminate politicians' "sacred cows" and to neutralize the threat of constant earmarks, the tax payer should be allowed to determine - at least a percentage - where their tax money goes. Some value healthcare over others and more value national defense, etc. Well let the taxpayer put their money where they feel best.   Some value healthcare over others and more value national defense, etc. Well let the taxpayer put their money where they feel best.

  In the age of electronic voting you can pick your president but you can't determine where your money goes?

  Start off small and see where it goes. Let the taxpayer pick exactly where they want say 10% of their $$$ to go. Create a system like filing your taxes or incorporate it into that system. Let them pick and choose.

  You will find out very quickly where people's interests lie...

  Ultimately it is up to WE THE PEOPLE.

  Allow Government Agencies to Generate Revenue

  Government agencies receive an appropriations bill, voted on by Congress, which allows them to be dictated by representatives of states who may not have the best interest for their respective agency.   Government agencies receive an appropriations bill, voted on by Congress, which allows them to be dictated by representatives of states who may not have the best interest for their respective agency. Allowing government agencies the ability to generate revenue, like the USPS, will make them relevant, more competitive globally, and reduce their burden on the taxpayers. How? Simple, the taxpayers will pay for what they need. Which means the government agencies which are needed will survive and the ones which are surplus will be removed (supply and demand). An example is the USPS, without the internet their was a high demand for their service. With the internet, this demand is decreasing and as such so should their role.

  To ensure government agencies are competitive, efficient, and utilize taxpayers money to the greatest extent make their lively hood based on the taxpayer as a consumer.

  If you have any additional ideas to improve on this idea, please post them. I probably don't have the best one because two heads are always better than one ;).

  Education should be taken out of states' budgets

  Education should be paid for by the federal government for a ten year period. It would give the duplication of services, the layering of expenses, poor performance and decaying infrastructure time to be fixed. Citizens should run local schools, but each American should not have to suffer the consequences of Age In Place adminstators who fail to produce results for our children. Society as a whole suffers when kids are ...more »

Society as a whole suffers when kids are not educated. Take education out of state budgets for a limited amount of time, let's let do the work from the ground up, taking tenure and politics out of the equation. Teachers know how to produce excellence and kids respond to excellence. The cost saving is not just for education alone, it is for every failure that we eventually pay for in those who did not benefit from a quality education.
