  Social Security Reform

  Stop allowing people to collect social security and continue to work at the same time. Social security is something that is supposed to help with retirement and not act as a second income when you get older. If the Government stopped this practice it would both save money and improve the unemployment rate. It would save money by not paying people who are still working. Social security is something that is supposed to help with retirement and not act as a second income when you get older. If the Government stopped this practice it would both save money and improve the unemployment rate. It would save money by not paying people who are still working. It would improve the unemployment rate by getting people to retire to collect unemployment. If the person leaves the workforce this would open up a position for someone else. This would lower the unemployment rate as someone collecting social security is not counted as unemployed and someone currently unemployed would be hired. This provides for someone else to pay into the social security system.

  A: Hold government leadership accountable for the jobs they do. All Senators and Representatives vote yeah or nay, in person, for 95% of all votes. With provisions for illness and the like exemption allowances.

  For budgets, ONE continuing resolution allowed. Then, if there is no budget, the Congress is restricted to the District of Columbia, works 12 hour days 6 days a week, no recess or visits to their states, or trips out of the district until a budget is passed. They need to work FOR the people.

  2. How can we use government resources more efficiently and effectively?

  A: Make government leadership affected by the decisions they make. Congress should be "OF the PEOPLE", meaning they get nothing in terms of continuing benefits the rest of USGOV doesn't get.

  a) Eliminate retirement and put them into a 401k plan or TSP that gets large payments each year, but isn't meant to be a lifetime retirement.

  b) Tie them to the GG pay charts, not their special congress pay. When they freeze pay and retirement growth for USG, it freezes for them too as a result of joining the GG charts.

  c) Medical benefits expire when they leave office, but in office they receive the same medical plan the GG government receives.

  Current congressional benefits that are completely unaffected by the decisions the congress makes for the rest of the government have to end.

  3. All votes by our representatives get sent to a constiutent's app or email that allows us direct access to see what they voted on and how. Then the app allows us to put a virtual coin in a virtual jar voicing my approval or disapproval. The app allows the user to instantly generate an SMS message to the rep letting them know what I (the constituent they represent) like or not about their voting. During elections, I can see exactly how they voted since the last election and even tag issues that are important to me when I vote.

  Have a review of tenure for all government employees every five years. Underperforming employees will have six months to a year to improve performance or they will be terminated. (Yes, I am a government employee of 10 years and I like my job and enjoy my colleagues.   Health benefits & 5 year rule before retirement

  According to HR, you have to be on federal health insurance for five years before you are able to retire and carryover FEHB for life. As a young employee, I don't think this is fair. I am paying higher premiums and have heard another employee essentially bragging that he is on his wife's insurance now (which is a lot cheaper), but plans to switch over to a federal plan soon so that he AND his wife can receive benefits ...more »

I think this five year policy is making it harder for those of us who have been paying into the system for a long time.   Why not increase the number of years to be eligible for retirement from the military from 20 to 30. Yes, yes, I know wartime readiness is important, and you can still have that, but up until the member hits 20 years. The final 10 years can be spent educating and training new members of their career field. It would require a phase in as many are close to retirement now. But imagine how large the experience pool would increase and the knowledge capture the military would have.

  Don't Borrow Federal Retirement Funds

  Do not allow the Treasury Department to borrow money from Federal Retirement Funds. Removing money from any fund in the TSP will result in losses and could potentially have direct impacts on retirement funds. Stating "TSP participants should have nothing to worry about" does not guarantee there will be no impact. Even if they paid back the borrowed amount plus interest, where would we get back our "earnings" for the ...more »

  Pay retirees waiting on full payment interest on deferred money

  Full retirement pay is being delayed for up to a year. Employee's should get interest on ALL delayed money. It is the employees money that the Government is holding until the verification is done. The Government has always charged interest for any money owed by employees. It should go both ways. Who is getting the interest on the money while they are hold it back????

This encouranges drug abuse and out of wedlock births and tenet abuse by housing squatters and unauthorized people living in the units. section 8 and low income housing also reduce local taxpayers home values and create blighted neighborhoods with loud music and cars with dark windows and dirty messy yards often with dirt as a yard..   Retirement annuity rate

  Make everyone's retirement annuity rate 1% like those of us in the non-law enforcement civilian service. It's not fair that law enforcement receive a 1.25% rate (they're already paid more for hazardous duty), military receive a 1.75% rate (love our troops but they also receive hazard duty pay), Congress members and their staff receive a 2% rate. You all are already paid more than those of us at the bottom so your 1% ...more »

  I like most ideas on this website. I think that most ideas have come from somebody who is trying to do a great job at what they do.

  Give an Annual Tax Credit for each Hour of Sick Leave Donated

  Place a monetary value on each hour of sick leave donated (whether direct designation or to a pool), and let the employee or new retiree take a tax credit for that tax year the sick leave was actually donated. Create and annually issue an IRS form similar to 1098-T for tuition credit…1098- SLD whatever.

  Automatic Donation of Leftover Sick Leave upon Retirement

  With few exceptions, each CSRS retiree has unused sick leave that cannot be applied to his/her retirement…left on the table. Unless the retiree designates what to do through a direct donation at time of retirement, make it mandatory that all sick leave not applied to the CSRS retiree or his designee will be pooled in an Agency account for equitable/as-needed distribution.

  Medicare - OPT out

  As a fed I have great medical coverage, and I don't have a problem with paying the Medicare (poor tax), but I would really like to have the ability to opt out of Medicare when I turn 65; too much additional paper work for everyone, not to mention having to change doctors, etc.. I don't know, if this would save the government any money, but it would surely be a savings in reducing the paper work.

  Make retirement mandatory for executive employees. Consider making it mandatory for a federal employee to retire once they reach their maximum retirement age PLUS 2 years. This would create a greater incentive to save knowing they would not be allowed to remain on staff years past their eligibility. It would allow ample time to wrap up work/process retirement actions. This would create a greater incentive to save knowing they would not be allowed to remain on staff years past their eligibility. It would allow ample time to wrap up work/process retirement actions. It would give agencies time to prepare to fill a vacancy. The federal workforce would 'regenerate' it's staff starting with new employees (lower salaries) using the latest innovations/technologies (grads just out of school).

  Eliminate 240 leave cap, use it on early retirement.

  Currently we can only save up to 240 hours of annual leave, or lose the overage.

  IF you allow us to book as much leave as we want, and use it at the end of our career, as terminal leave is in the military, along with our sick leave balance, it would save money on overtime and leave.

  I I knew I could bank as much as I could, I would retire 3 or 4 years early.

  Improve Uniformed Service Retirement System

  Currently there is no tenure in the Uniformed Service Retirement System. A ten year tenure would encourage members of the Uniformed Services to re-enlist or stay in at least until 10 years and would improve retention saving the Government the cost of continually recruiting and processing new recruits. A ten year tenure would also allow a Uniformed Service member to leave beyond ten years and take the option of the years ...more »

A ten year tenure would encourage members of the Uniformed Services to re-enlist or stay in at least until 10 years and would improve retention saving the Government the cost of continually recruiting and processing new recruits. A ten year tenure would also allow a Uniformed Service member to leave beyond ten years and take the option of the years in service as a pension that would not be paid out until a retirement age, (60-62 yrs). This could also save the federal government money by allowing a Uniformed Service member options to leave beyond 10 years and not just "Riding it out until 20 years", in a less productive role of waiting for the only retirement option of 20 years. Additional savings would be the Government does not pay the individual a full salary for multiple of years of unproductive service and will reduce the overall retirement payout.

  A 15 year retirement would also offer the same cost saving benefits for the Federal Government. Allowing Uniformed Service members to retire at 15 years with a reduced retirement would save the government 5 years of full salary costs and reduce the overall retirement payout to that Uniformed Service member. It could also be used as a Federal Government labor reduction tool, allowing individuals to retire early, reducing the Government payroll and providing the option of a job reduction/removal if the decision is made not to re-hire for the position.

  Offer Early Retirement Opportunities

  Offer options for waiving select FERS retirement rules. e.g. offer employees age 56 and over the opportunity to retire without incuring any penalty (if they do not have 30 years service). This would trim payrolls (of employees at their highest earnings point in their careers), create more jobs, infuse agencies with new ideas, etc.

  Create a National Health Insurance System as Next Stimulus

  We could scrap all current government-funded health insurance and health care and institute a self-sustaining National Health Insurance covering all citizens and paid for by all citizens, in part - with a National Sales Tax. This would be an immediate shot in the arm for American industry and business, as well as provide a new flexibility for American workers.   We could scrap all current government-funded health insurance and health care and institute a self-sustaining National Health Insurance covering all citizens and paid for by all citizens, in part - with a National Sales Tax. This would be an immediate shot in the arm for American industry and business, as well as provide a new flexibility for American workers. No American should have to depend on anyone else for their health insurance. It makes sense. The only way to ensure all Americans are insured is to insure all Americans. I have a viable plan based on a 4% National Sales Tax, a 3% payroll tax and a 4% corporate EBITA tax. This would fully fund our health insurance needs - $5000+ per capita indemnity - and insurance companies who suffer economic damage can be compensated with health trust money and through eminent domain arbitration. The day after a self-supporting National Health Insurance plan is put into place, the federal budget will be closer to balance as well as many states. P.S. as part of this plan, everybody will have to pay reasonable but mandatory copays, even the "poor".

  Offer early retirement incentives

  Retiring of older employees will effectively reduce payroll costs and infuse programs with "new blood". Though not appropriate for everyone, there are many that would choose the option. Opening up positions would/could contribute to government helping to reduce unemployment and putting capable people to work.

If someone retires at 60 and works 20 years, they get the same FEHB retirement benefits as someone who retired 2 years older and only worked for 5 years. It seems like 62 year olds should have at least 10 years of federal service to get full retirement benefits.
