Tax payers pay for the drug research, not the drug companies, and then US customers pay top dollar for the drugs they funded.
Government should hold on to the patents for 10 years and then lease the distrubution to pharmiceutical companies.

Kill the drug trade by providing free injections for users. Let us learn the lesson of prohibition - it doesn't work and only empowers criminals.

Stop relying solely on years and/or age for retirement. I cannot determine how many hours that I have to work each week. Why should the number of years of service be the factor to determine when a person reaches retirement rather than the actual amount of real time spent working? Allow a person to reach retirement earlier than is presently the norm based on required hours of service. Efficiencies and effectiveness of the workforce, including health, would improve and costs diminish.

We are violating our US Constitution by killing humans in the womb. The infringement on life has led to manifold deficits in USA including unrealized human capital. The dead cannot compete. I suggest we restore protection of the right to life for all in society which includes the unborn.

Save travel costs, energy costs, and increase health of federal employees by providing the option for low-cost non-motorized transportation reimbursements rather than only providing the current high cost motorized vehicle use rates. If, as an example, just a couple percent of federal employees would use bicycles that could be reimbursed at 10 cents per mile instead of 50 cents/mile for automobile use – much would be saved annually in various monetary/environmental/energy/sedentary costs associated with exclusive motorized vehicle usage. Those employees that are eligible for patrol assignment home to home reimbursements have a good opportunity to benefit the taxpayer (including self) and the environment by using non-motorized transport between home and duty station.

Prohibit smoking on all federal property, including federal building entrances, sidewalks, parking lots, parks, etc. This will reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, reduce litter, and reduce environmental cleanup costs.

We should somehow encourage workers to exercise, for example: Workers should be allowed to go work-out during work hours for at most 1/2 hour paid time in a facility that is either located in their building or in a different facility that is close to their job. Or Free Gym Membership??? This is not for selfish reasons so we can all look like models. This is for health reasons. Many people sit in their cubicles all day ...more »

This makes people unhealthy, unhappy and I believe this decreases the productivity.
Maybe not necessarily the way I put it, and I don't mean to offend any one. I'm on a heavy side myself.

This $54B budget should not count "against" Defense as it is an entitlement program for persons NOT defending our country (spouses, children, survivors, retirees, etc.). Multiple joint hospitals have already been built (Elmendorf, Vegas, Chicago, etc.) and joint staffing has already begun at some. Maintaining two "separate" healthcare systems, yet trying to make them work together makes it increasingly obvious that we simply need to "drop the other shoe" and merge the peacetime healthcare mission. "Carve outs" obviously need to be maintained for warfighter care, deployable medicine, etc. Can't explain that all here.

It's time Federal Workers got inspired to exercise and "move" too. Having a healthier workforce will lower overall healthcare costs and set an example for the rest of American taxpayers. Adding bike lanes in DC and around the country, having accomodations for bike-commuters/runners, and encouraging employees to take a 15 minute walk at lunch will make a big difference.
Let's move toward being a healthier nation.
