Stop buying foreign oil and drill here

Everyone knows that the economy would collapse if they got rid of fossil fuels, and they aren't going away any time soon, so why do we keep relying on foreign oil? Why are we paying $3.70 a gallon because people in the middle east are rioting? If we drill at home, we can save money, which in turn will stimulate the economy

  1. The problem is less about buying/drilling for the oil and more about refining it. We do need to find more sources of oil, agreed, but a new oil refinery supporting the nations infrastructure hasn't been built in decades.

  2. During the last few years the US Geological Survey has identified numerous location here in the united states that contain oil and natural gas.

We need to put americans back to work, drilling and refining here at home. Lets quit relying on OPEC or those middle Eastern countries who are in constant turmoil and excessively running up the cost per barrel.

Take a look for yourself , go to www.usgs.gov and click on Energy and Minerals under the "Browse USGS topics of interest" in the right hand column. See how much oil they have estimated to be in our back yard. All we have to do is start drilling.

I have been told numerous times that the cost of our petroleum based products is rising because of Huricane Katrina, the war in IRAQ, the war in Afganistan, and now Libya. Lets quit making excuses and start doing something about it. The real reason is our limited refineries, why can't we simply employ americans by building new refineries and drilling our own oil and natural gas. We may even, with time, get to a point where we can sell oil to other countries to help reduce our nations deficit.

  3. I don't think anyone realistically expects to switch to alternative fuels overnight, but shouldn't we be investing our time, money and effort into a more secure, sustainable economy? Instead of putting a huge investment into new oil drilling fields / platforms a refineries how about building offshore wind farms, solar furnaces or photovoltaic power plants.
