Stop Using Military Aircraft as Personal Transport

It is time to stop the perk of Military Commander's using their Fighter Aircraft as personal transport when they go TDY. If a Squadron Commander needs to fly from Nellis to Langley, he/she can get on a civilian flight like the rest of us. At (conservatively) $10,000 per hour of flight for a US Fighter aircraft it is way to cost prohibitive. We need to stop all these cross country flights that military pilots use to hang with buddies and go to golf tournaments. I've seen it with my own eyes as I've personally loaded golf clubs into travel pods for these cross country flights.

  1. Didn't know that went on. Perhaps a anonoymous letter to a local newspaper or your congressman detailing this waste should be drafted.

    These people need fired.

  2. Golfing after work is not waste. What do you do after work? Why do we assume everything a government leader does is waste? Most would be more surprised at what they do day to day. They take the hard problems with them 24/7.

  3. You don't get it...in the '90s at Nellis AFB there was an annual exercise called Operation Long Shot where units from all over would fly in. The whole operation was nothing more than a Golf Tournament while all the fighters and bombers set idle on the airfield. They only flew one day out of the week to make it "legit" but it was just a golf tournament. (Since I left Nellis, I don't know if this is still going on.)

Additionally, every fighter squadron is contracted with a minimum number of sorties they must fly each month. This number is not always met, when they fall behind, a number of pilots will take their aircraft "Cross Country" and hop between different bases. They will leave on Friday and return on Monday. Again this is not for duty but just to get sorties to meet the contract. What do you think happens while they fly on the weekends to see their buddies? It is not work. I spent over 20 years in this world...I know.
