Public Assistance - True accountability

I agree to have my idea, not my name or information, posted online.:
Yes

From an unknown person in Texas...

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried.. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND while you are on Government subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Government welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

  1. While I agree with some of these ideas other i cannot.

I believe that while on government support (welfare) you should be gainfully employed and I like the idea of inspections and roadway clean ups.

The last para I cannot agree with as it will seperate people into a different class of citizen; Also, it would punish people who are using it for true help and not just lazyness. An example is I know a college student would goes to community college full time, lives on thier own, and works part time. They cannot afford everything so they get a 100$ in food stamps every month, they couldnt get anything else but thats a different issue. Does this person not get the right to vote, even thought they are using the system to help better themselves?

  2. As a fellow Texan I totally agree with everything except the right to vote. The right to vote is actually what makes the US the USA. But your right. As for child care you can go work at a child care facility baby sitting the children of those of us who actually work. Win Win because you can take your kids with you and they will be provided with at least one meal a day.

  3. How about making all of these single mothers on welfare work. Stop paying them to have more children. The more they have the more the government gives them. They are in charge of their bodies, they know what it takes to get preg., so make it a crime for them not to support their kids. And if they refuse, take the kids away from them.

  5. I agree. Also requiring drug tests to be eligible for food stamps and other benefits. These benefits should have a time limit.

  6. For the most part, I agree. Its time for America to get tough and force people to take responsibility for their choices. We can no longer afford to support those that are unwilling to participate in their own success. When hard working employees are subject to furloughs while lazy people are staying home, having children they can't afford, what is my country becoming? We are reaching a tipping point and changes need to be made if America wants to stay on top.
