National Speed Limits

The government has no business talking about Green anything and promoting speed limits to 65 & 70. Cafe standards use the old lower speed limit and did not calculate ethanol fuel. The higher speed limit contributes to greatly increased green house emissions as a result of decreased mileage and increased fuel usage. If the situation was any stupider, we would open up like an Autobahn and make 1 mpg with your Prius while going 110 mph.

  1. I'm not sure if this would necessarily make the government more effective or efficient. This policy would theoretically reduce greenhouse emissions with proper enforcement, but it also could have an inflationary impact by adding to the number of hours truckers would spend on each job, which could offset gas savings and add to the cost of consumer goods. Without specific data to back up the efficiency of this idea, it is hard to judge whether it would in fact be preferable to the numerous other options to reduce greenhouse gases.
