Military Publications Ordering - Add Checks & Balances

I agree to have my idea, not my name or information, posted online.:
Yes

Currently, National Guard organizations have almost unlimited access to order (offical government) publications (Equipment Technical Manuals, Training Manuals, Etc) in any quantity and with any frequency desired.

This enables waste through duplicate ordering, and ordering publications not relevant to the unit's mission/equipment. Inexperienced publication system users are able to easily create erroneous massive orders which result in boxes upon boxes of irrelevant publications arriving on their doorstep.

Many of these publications contain restricted information, and proper disposal becomes an additional cost.

I suggest that the ordering of publications be reviewed and include visibility of order cost, as well as cross-checking publications ordered against equipment records to validate need and quantity.

  1. Need to stop duplication of publication in the branches of service, AF, Army, Marines, etc.

All branches of the service are producing their own operating manual for the M16. Why not produce a Govt. Operating Manual to be distributed throughout the branches. This would save time and money for one operating manual for one product used througout

the branches of service. With each branch producing their own manual this taking up way too much time and money whether it is done electronically or published. Govt.M16 instead of Navy Pub, Army Pub, Air Force Pub, Marine Pub, ANG pub, AR pub. etc.

Lots of money saved on separate publications alone.

  2. Different branches will say that the manufacturer did not have enough instructions in the manual that came with the product. Get the branch subject matter experts to get together and come up with one government operating manual for one standard issue

    item used throughout our government.
