Ideas Worth Spreading---- Ted Talks

I agree to have my idea, not my name or information, posted online.:
Yes

Each government employee should spend a few minutes with Ted Talks---Ideas Worth Spreading. http://www.ted.com/

Find some subjects of interest and watch to see what develops in YOU. The presentations are, by definition, concise. Rarely does any speaker

go over the 15 minute suggested time. That time element is part of what makes Ted Talks such a great tool. If you can't give your "elevator speech", then go back to the drawing board until you can.

Watch at least three (3) to get a feel for how they are constructed. You will learn that sprightly presentations work. Using humor, personal examples get the listener's attention. You will soon learn, that if we were all thinking like this, we would get alot more done, in our families, in the workplace, in our nation, which is part of our ever expanding World.

You can listen on your home computer or through your home download of iTunes.

  1. I think Ted talks are great. I also like to copy great things. A suggestion would be to refine the Ted talks for the Gov't audience. So there would be Ted-Gov't talks a few times a year. Topics would be things of interest to gov't like what is on this web page. Speakers could be not necessarily the leaders, but like Ted talk, people that that have an idea to share. For example, if a person working at GSA finds a terrific way to save money by having a contractor reuse packaging instead of throwing it away, maybe other people at other gov't agencies could use the same idea.

Excellent idea. The very format of Ted Talks should be the norm. Same as Ken Burns did for documentary film. He was instantly copied and it is now totally the norm. It's known as "the Burns effect" that Apple has used...here's a link. Yes, the Tedtalks format is quick and easy and portable, but most of all inspiring. More than one of the tedtalks has been a tear jerker. Can you consider submitting your comment as a New Idea? Your examples are excellent. It is just what is needed to break the mold of needing official travel and conference rooms with VTC capability, all so tiresome. Tedtalks can be the model.
