Funding dedicated to High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) programs should be directed to DEA's budget. HIDTA duplicates the mission of DEA, an agency with a single mission. In addition to the duplicated mission, HIDTA also creates additional administrative cost and overhead expenses. Most HIDTAs have their executive staff (3-5 contactors who receive six figure salaries) and various IT and clerical position. Even though HIDTAs share a mission with a government agency, they often rent seperate commercial office space, which require furniture, computers, telephones, etc. Keep in mind that there are currently 27 HIDTAs across the U.S.
