Govt Phone number for life (regional) - VOIP - No # changes!

Using Voice over Internet Protocol establish Agency wide phone numbers for local areas - no need to print new business cards and saved time hunting down people. A new employee that gets hired gets assigned a number from a central office. They keep this number through moves up, lateral or whatever. No more reprint business cards or tracking down the guy who used to sit there before you. Savings through efficiency. This would be especially useful in the national capital region. In 10 years I have gone through 7 numbers - cubicle moves, etc and it cost the agency $50-100 to move the numbers. VOIP through a USB so when we telework we can answer - at another desk we can answer, or even at a conference. How much stationary, business cards and strings of calls without reaching the intended POC have you made?

  1. RE: business cards. I hope folks who work for Uncle Sam are buying their "own" business cards and Uncle Sam is not picking up the tab for it.

  3. @ above community member. If this was regarding the business cards. The answer is, you cannot use govcc to purchase business from a vendor. This is true for DoN. If other agencies are doing it, they shouldn't. SWAG and refreshments for staff meetings cannot be purchased with the govcc either. Because of the abuses, it is small organizations like mine that have to go through piles of paperwork and long cc audits. If I have to suffer this, I think everyone else should have to go through it as well. I am tired of hearing about other organizations/agencies using gov cc's for whatever they want and cell phones for GS05's and subsidized transportation to and from work. It is ridiculas. As for a phone number for life, that is also ridiculas.

Not government cc but office supply card stock through printers. My former agency moved me and others 5 times in one year. It costs $100 to move a phone number when justified. If we go voip whi most new govertnment buildings are then why not take ity one step futher aT little cost?

I suspect you own telcom stocks.

  5. @above. No, I don't own telcom stock. Truth be told, yeah we buy (Avery) business card stock and print our own. We moved from one end of the building to the other while the building was being renovated, and we just kept our regular number. Our customers would go crazy if we changed numbers.
