Scan current stored documents into computers and make standard OPM/Government forms electronic. Eliminate millions, maybe billions in paper waste and storage fees every year. This covers all branches and departments.

The only problem is, when the certificate of birth isn't orginal; well, nobody believes it. Sooooooo, there are always going to be exceptions. I would not encourage agencies to abandon paperwork. Reduce....recycle; yes. Paperless - no.

Furthermore; all data should be backed up to the hilt - on different media; and be far more secure against hacks and electromagnetic puslations from the sun or otherwise. Stored data is as vulnerable as paper in different ways. One should back-up or maybe even augment the other.

We've been hearing about the "paperless government" for years -- let's see it!

Many of the forms today are electronic but some forms are unique in construction (forms that have watermarks, tags, and other printing features) that they have to be in paper at least for now.
Also there are folks who don't have the same access to computers (connection speed, computer skills) that most have and rely on paper to send and receive info with the government.

I understand the nostalgia for paperwork. The year is 2011, we have the technology.
