The $1 bill cost more than a dollar to produce. It is time we replace it with coins like they have done in Europe. They last longer and are cheaper to make.

The coin is cheaper only because of seigniorage - The Federal Pays the mint $1 for each $1 dollar coin. The Federal Reserve pays less than 2 cents for a dollar note. The difference in costs is passed onto member banks which pass the costs onto the consumer. In effect, this is a hidden tax. Even with seigniorage, it will take ten years before going to the coin became cash positive. Dollar bills are made from recycled blue jeans and linen - much more environmentally friendly than coins.

Bring back the $2.00 bill. We used them in Germany in the 1980s. If you keep producing them, people will use them. They don't because folks figure the Fed will give up and stop producing them.

Wow, 28 ideas in 10 days, you are a machine! Maybe instead of working for the federal government you should run for elected office and get some things done! You have a lot of ideas pent up in your head. I would have never thought of making tele work mandatory or passing immigration reform to get the government on track to being efficient. Awesome thanks for the ideas, keep em coming.

If something comes to mind I add it. Some are more commentary and several are ideas I submitted from last year. The key here is peer review - if it is good it can rise up and may get attention.

If they bring back dollars coins, I hope they make them bigger than the quarter.

Everybody ditches dollar coins now as fast as they get them; this will never work. The coins are too heavy and cumbersome.

Maybe they could make a 99 cent coin, cuz you know a lot of prices end in "and 99 cents". But then of course their is also tax.

The government has tried dollar coins over and over. American's just don't want them. I remember being overseas and hating how heavy my bag was because of the dollar coins. Of course I always forgot I could use them because I wasn't used to dollars being coins...
