Make it possible for federal employees to download free home use versions of standardised software programs like MS Office, Visio, Anti virus software, MS Project, Adobe Acrobat, etc. More people should be teleworking, and this would enable these people to use the same software on their home computers as they use at work. This would encourage more teleworking. We are already paying for the licenses...

You can, here is the website. You must contact your IT person and they will supply you with the program code. I think it cost me $9.95 to download the software, and another $12.95 if I wanted a backup cd.

Re: the previous comment. This was a great offer, but the program codes expired about 9 months ago, and there have been no new codes issued. it would be good if it were started up again, or if we could get a free download instead.

I don't think that people should be using home computers for government work. Typically, govt. workers would be dealing with records or information subject to the privacy act or FOIA and they cannot be stored on personal computers.
Telework is typically done on a govt. laptop with a VPN and other security procedures. This is not a valid arguement to get cheap or free software. Also, this isn't saving the govt money, it's saving you money. In fact, in some ways it's costing the govt. money because when you don't buy software at full price, the software company makes less money and then pays less taxes which costs the govt. money.

I just downloaded Microsoft Office Professional 2010 last week. I work for USDA-FSA. I got the code from our IT people.
And to comment on the other comment. This is just a benefit. Its nothing more, it a nice thing that the Government does for its employee's. I'm sure it doesn't cost the Government much if anything to offer this, they probably just have agreed to purchase the software for their agency.

@ above. I find it amazing that your IT people gave you the code. We are "stuck" witn NMCI. In show of appeasement, a few years ago we could purchase MS OFFICE 2007 for $25.00. Provide your personal cc number to the NMCI website, name, address, and in a week it was delivered to my house. All I can say, is "lucky you."

I got the MS Office 2007 also a few years ago, your right they didn't let you download it they sent it to you and I'm thinking I paid $19.95 or something like that. I'm assuming you tried your IT person? I didn't have any problem at all. They said they are still offering the program to all, I assumed it was all Government, but maybe it was just USDA?? Sorry
