Allow for the early retirement of Agency employees who opt to do so. There are countless federal employees spanning the various agencies that would love a chance to leave now with 30 years of service but are unable to due to retirement age restrictions. Pragmatically speaking, people who are just waiting to leave are generally not as productive as people who are still trying to reach the upper echelons of their career ladder. This would not necessarily force people out but, instead, give people the option to leave and give the Government a chance to save on high end salary spending for a workforce that isn't striving to produce as much as they may have in the past.

I disagree, we have a lot of people that came out here at age 20 or 21 and want to retire with 35 years of service at age 55 or 56. I think they have put in more than enough time.

Allow employees who were "tricked" into switching from CSRS to FERS to switch back to CSRS and retire.

By offering voluntary early retirements (VERA) to all federal agencies we can elimate some of the top paying salaries in the Federal government. There a numerous federal employees who are just marking time until they reach their Mandatory Retirement Date (MRD). Many are not as productive as they could be because in their mind they are already retired. By allowing employees to retire without a penalty the Federal government could reduced the deficit by the difference between the retired employees salary and the amount of their annuity. Once the employee retires the agency can make a decision to hire another employee at a lower pay rate or redistribute the retirees duties to another employee that is under utilzed and over paid.

Absolutely agree. After 30 years regardless of age, an employee should be given the option to retire with the standard retirement calculation by CSRS rules with the exception of no penalty.

Currently, Civil servant retirement has 2 required components 1) must reach his/her Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) and 2) have 30 years service. If you have 30 years and are only 50, you must wait till about 56 to be eligible for retirement. Put the civil service on par with the military retirement timeframes to allow retirement at 30 years independent of your age. This was submitted as a "Pruning" under past SAVE program to make room for the young vets to backfill the older folks waiting to meet their retirement gate. Please give serious consideration to relaxing the retirement criteria, and in lieu of more draconian budget cutting measures to save monies from the federal payroll. This would not incur additional costs, provide savings as grades are replaced by at least a grade lower, and provide a new energy for the next decade of challenges.

Military time bought back should count up front, and allow those who want to retire with 25 years of government service the ability to do so. Your time spent in the military is still government service.

How about allowing at MRA retirement without penalty no matter how many years. I will be 56 in 2013 but will only have 27 years.....Let me out!!!!

Eliminate the 2% penalty per year, for every year under age 55, for CSRS employees for early retirment. I think alot of people would retire early. This law was put in effect many years ago to keep valued government employees and seems outdated in today's economy.
