During a Government Shutdown, Pay Military Not Welfare!

If it were to actually come to a government shutdown, we should ensure our military is paid, and instead stop paychecks to members of Congress and welfare recipients. Why should the familiy of a person risking there life on the other side of the world suffer, while a person who is not working continue to receive money they did not earn?

Also, during a furlough, a federal employee should have the option to work even if not paid, if they chose. Some of us work to support the Warfighter, and would continue to do so even if a paycheck is not guaranteed!

  1. The military is part of the federal workforce, I don't think anyone should not be paid but it affects the military no less than anyone else.

  2. Not to turn this into an emotional topic, but, do you in your wildest imaginings consider it right that Welfare recipients get paid, but the Military does not? This "choice" should never happen, however, it apparently did.

I agree, if there is a decision to make between the two, clearly the military should be taken care of first.

There should be some concession for military -- they are sent "where ever;" often separated from their families, have little to no control over what happens in their absence.

Even when they aren't separated from their immediate family (spouse and kids), they usually have to deal with whatever economy they are stuck with -- cost of living in Hawaii or Europe or cost of living in "Back-in-the-sticks, Texas" differ greatly.

Few things are more frightening than being in a hostile environment and stressing over whether your family, based in a high cost of living area, and finding you'll either get no pay, or get shorted on the paycheck -- will there be funds to pay the rent, utilities, food, schools, etc., will our credit be destroyed by this?

Most people who join the military are "ok" with most of what happens, but when they aren't even given a full week notice that their pay was being "shorted" for this pay period, that puts them in "REACT mode." Withholding their salaries is as wrong -- they work for the money, it isn't being GIVEN to them, they have earned it.
