With few exceptions, each CSRS retiree has unused sick leave that cannot be applied to his/her retirement…left on the table. Unless the retiree designates what to do through a direct donation at time of retirement, make it mandatory that all sick leave not applied to the CSRS retiree or his designee will be pooled in an Agency account for equitable/as-needed distribution.

While this is a cool idea, it would do the exact opposite of saving the government money. Every sick day that is lost when a person retires is one less day that they government has to pay an employee to not work.

I think my sick leave balance is still in the caluculations for retirement under CSRS or I can get paid for it. I think FERS personnel are going to be paid for theirs. I would rather have either one of those as opposed to what you suggest. Sorry, but I think it is worthwhile saving. However, that being said there is an idea out there to do this and maybe it can be put out there as an option. It is better than gambling you are never going to need it then having to need it before you retire and not having enough.

I added the gamble tag so you can see the similar but different idea.

Could be a 50-50 split....fifty percent goes to charitible, the official leave donor program, and the other goes back to the Treasury so that the government, which as an employer, ain't so bad afterall, can "save".
